Oumou Kouyate

Born in Dakar, Senegal, Oumou Kouyate, was raised and versed in the traditions of girls and women of Manding diali clans, learning to recite and sing oral history of the society. Oumou is also a licensed cosmetologist, specializing in African hair and makeup designs. She is also an experienced radio DJ and commentator, having worked at Radio in Tambacounda, Senegal. In the US, she continues her practice as a Hair Designer and performs with her family, Djimo Kouyate & Family. She is also a student at the University of District of Columbia.
